Mesilla

At Macias Custom Homes

We love working in Mesilla. Macias Custom Homes is a local home builder and remodeler ready to help you with your custom home build, home improvement, addition, or garage.

Mesilla has a rich and complex history dating back to the nineteenth century, with various stories and accounts surrounding the town’s founding and early days. Old Mesilla was established in the early 1850s when the United States and Mexico settled the boundary dispute with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The settlement was solidified with the Gadsen Purchase, which was signified by taking down the Mexican flag and raising the United States flag, indicating the United States’ land acquisition.

By the 1870s, Mesilla was progressing—thanks to booming businesses and professionals, the town was thriving. However, Mesilla also attracted outlaws like the infamous Billy the Kid. It was here where Billy was tried and sentenced in 1881.

Today, Mesilla is a tourist attraction for many. It still harbors much of its old-fashioned charm, from the brick walkways and adobe houses to the ghosts said to dwell within the Double Eagle restaurant. Visit the Town of Mesilla website to learn more about this unique area to work and live.

Expanding Quality

Enjoy the Outdoors

This featured project shows a backyard perspective of the home’s mauve stucco exterior. The back of the house has a sliding door and a small porch—perfect for a small seating area where the family can enjoy the holidays and New Mexico summers in the shade.

Mesilla Neighborhood Snapshot

This next home in the Mesilla area features a main bedroom with gray carpet and a barn door that leads to the bathroom. The barn door and its espresso-brown stain bring a unique quality to this room and stray from the traditional doorway. It grants the room more space, visibility, and a pop of color.

Mesilla's Custom Homes by Macias

Located near Mesilla, the first home build features distinct Spanish characteristics in its elegant stone tile flooring and arched shower. Our builders demonstrated attention to detail with custom mocha cabinets that match the brown-speckled countertops, providing an alluring contrast to the bathroom's design and drawing light to the vanity area.

This last project neighbors Mesilla. The house features a soft gray stucco color to enhance the richer brown tones of the garage and landscaping. The home’s architectural build and short pathway to the driveway grant the home movement and dimension.
